Nails
Nail problems such as pitting, ridging, splitting, distortion or discoloration are a common complaint. Some nail problems may be signs of underlying heart, lung or kidney disease or accompany other skin diseases such as psoriasis. Most nail problems are due to much less serious causes like bacterial or fungal infections or improper nail care or manicures.
Some of the common causes of nail problems
1.Overuse of nail care products, especially nail polish remover which strips water from the nail plate causing it to weaken. Nail polish should be removed with a small amount of remover. Usage more than once a week is discouraged. Use acetone-free nail polish remover such as ELON©.
2.Never cut or push your cuticles or allow anyone else to do so. The cuticle forms a watertight seal between the nail fold and the nail plate preventing moisture accumulation and subsequent infection. Proper and gentle use of a chemical cuticle remover (lactic acid) is preferred. Soften the cuticle with ELON Nail Conditioner.
3.Protein and nylon fiber nail hardeners cause fewer adverse reactions than formaldehyde nail hardener products.
4.Many types of adverse nail reactions can occur to acrylic artificial nails or acetate nail tips. Their use is discouraged. Nail wrapping with silk, paper or linen is safer although more expensive and time consuming.
5.Soaking your nails for twenty minutes in the evening in warm water followed by immediate application of a thick moisturizing cream to the nail and nail folds (ELON, Complex 15, Moisturel) helps rehydrate the nail and reduce brittleness and fraying.
6.Brittle nails may be caused by lack of proper vitamins and minerals. Biotin, a vitamin that we must get from our diet, is needed in order for our hair and nails to grow. Studies have shown that taking supplemental biotin can lead to a stronger, thicker nail. One ELON Matrix adds biotin and other essential elements for beautiful nails.
7.Splitting or broken nails can be a frustrating problem. To repair a split in your nail, apply a coat of clear nail polish. Cut a small piece of a tea bag and apply it to the nail on top of the polish. Cover the tea bag material with 1-2 additional coats of clear polish. Once dry, file as needed.
