Spring Break-Skincare Essentials

Bye bye winter blues and hello sunshine!! March means SPRING BREAK and time let loose, have fun, and enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation. But that doesn’t mean it’s OK to throw all caution to the wind. Here are some tips on how to stay safe this spring break:

COVER UP
Protective clothing is necessary when being exposed to UVA and UVB rays for any period of time. Hats can prevent sunburn to the scalp, and sunglasses can keep your eyes safe and prevent squinting (which contributes to the formation of unwanted crow’s feet). When outdoors, wear lightweight, breathable, SPF, skin protective clothing and use a beach (or pool) umbrella for shade to defend against the harmful rays of the sun.

SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN
This is the most important step of your spring break AND daily routine. Every time you step out of the house you are being exposed to the sun’s damaging rays. Even on cloudy days, you must wear sun protection! There are several ways to add SPF protection to your skin care regimen. Keep a few of our must-have products in your beach bag to keep your skin healthy and beautiful while living it up at your spring break destination.

FOR THE FACE

SkinMedica’s Total Defense + Repair is water resistant, offers protection to the skin from harmful infrared rays (IR-A rays), and is a broad-spectrum SPF 50+. The amazing blend of antioxidants can help prevent and correct the signs of aging. It is also available in a tinted version to add a little color when you are on the go.

SkinMedica’s Essential Defense is a lightweight, sheer sunscreen that is ideal for oily and/or combination skin. This sunscreen comes in SPF’s of 32, 35 or 47. It gives you the highest level of UVA protection available, along with UVB coverage in a formulation that won’t clog pores.

Colorescience’s Face Primer SPF 30 will give you a sheer, natural look that won’t weigh you down or melt in hot weather. Use alone or as a primer prior to your foundation to improve skin texture and enhance tone.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Mineral Brush-on Sunscreen SPF 50 is perfect if you want to skip the mess of traditional liquid sunscreens. No spills and non-greasy SPF that makes this product ideal for on-the-go reapplication, and it fits conveniently into your purse or pocket.

FOR THE LIPS

jane iredale Lip Drink Lip Balm with SPF 15 is great for quick, hydrating, sheer color.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Lip Shine has SPF 35, provides UVA/UVB sun protection, and a
hint of color with natural shine.

FOR THE BODY

Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is Dr. Sassmannshausen’s FAVORITE and is a must-have for time spent at the beach or pool. It provides water-resistant, broad-spectrum SPF 30+ protection for up to 80 minutes in the water. Regular, repeated use will minimize sunburn, skin damage, wrinkles, and the risk of skin cancer. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to all areas of the body, including the soles of your feet!

“And, remember to always reapply sunscreen EVERY 2 hours!”
